Weekends in Dushanbe are not "a complete shutdown" for currency exchange, but the choice is not the same as on weekdays either. Some branches operate on a shorter schedule, some are closed, some have only the cash desk open without the full currency functions. So weekend exchange should be approached with preparation: you can compare the rate in advance via the widget, but the working hours of a specific branch are better checked on the visit date. This article covers what is open on Saturday and Sunday, how to prepare in advance, and why large operations are better planned for weekdays.
Saturday. Most large banks (Orienbank, Eskhata, Alif, Spitamen, Amonatbank) have duty branches in the centre. Working hours — usually 09:00–13:00 or 09:00–15:00. Not every branch, but central offices — yes.
Sunday. Most branches are closed. Some central banks still operate on a short schedule, plus individual exchange offices.
Public holidays. Navruz, Independence Day and others — most banks are closed. Check in advance.

Open the widget, look at the rates. Note or save 2–3 candidate banks.
Call the chosen bank or check on the website / Google Maps. Confirm the hours of the specific branch.
If the amount is large or there is no urgent need — better to wait until Monday. On weekdays the choice is wider.
Saturday at 10:00–11:00 is the most comfortable. By 12:00–13:00 many branches have already wound down currency operations for the day.
Basic exchange hygiene.
If the first bank is not open — a backup.
The widget works on weekends the same as on weekdays. Rates update, the banks in the list are the same — only some branches may be physically unavailable.
Situation | Plan |
|---|---|
Saturday morning, need 1,000 somoni | Central bank, by 13:00 |
Sunday, urgent exchange needed | A duty bank or an official exchange office |
Large sum, weekend | Better to wait until Monday |
Saturday evening arrival | Minimum at the airport, the rest on Sunday or Monday |
Monday business meeting, preparing cash on Sunday | A duty bank or a staged plan for Monday morning |
Changing a large sum at an unknown exchange office. On weekends there are more "easy" points — be careful.
Relying on "they're always open". Schedules change.
Rushed exchanges half an hour before closing. The cashier may already be closing the "currency day".
Changing a large amount at a hotel. Bad rate.
Tajikistan has several state holidays during the year:
On these days most banks are closed. Plan large operations in advance.

Many central branches — yes, usually until 13:00–15:00.
Most are closed. Some central branches and exchange offices may be open.
Withdraw somoni from a card — yes, 24/7. Exchange cash currency — only at open cash desks.
An exchange office with extended hours, a hotel (for the minimum), an ATM for withdrawals from a card.
Better not. On weekdays the choice of branches is wider and the operation is calmer.
Most are closed on 21–24 March.
A call to the bank, a website check, Google Maps with up-to-date hours.
